Start einer neuen Filmreihe im Campuskino. Den Anfang macht zum Semesterstart Vamos A La Playa von Bettina Blümner.
Wie kann es in unserem globalen Informations-Ökosystem gelingen, die immense Menge der ständig auf uns einströmenden Informationen zu handhaben? In Renee Hobbs Vortrag geht es um die Entwicklung digitaler Kernkompetenzen, die Menschen dabei helfen können, sechs unterschiedliche Formen von Fake News zu identifizieren und sich adäquat dazu zu verhalten. Darüber hinaus erörtert Hobbs, wie soziale Medien unsere Vorstellungen von Kompetenz und Sachverstand ändern und welche kurz- und langfristigen Folgen dies für Bildung und Gesellschaft nach sich zieht?
Renee Hobbs ist Professorin für Communication Studies an der Harrington School of Communication and Media an der Universität von Rhode Island/USA. Sie ist eine international anerkannte Expertin auf dem Gebiet der digitalen Bildung und der Medienkompetenz. Durch praktisch-edukative Arbeit vor Ort und im internationalen Rahmen sowie als Forscherin, Dozentin, Aktivistin und Medienpraktikerin hat Hobbs entscheidend dazu beigetragen die Vermittlung von digitaler Bildung und medialer Kompetenz qualitativ zu stärken, dies sowohl in den USA als auch weltweit. Sie ist Gründerin und Direktorin des Media Education Lab, dessen Auftrag es ist, die Qualität von Medienkompetenz und -bildung qualitativ zu stärken mittels Forschung und praktischer Bildungsarbeit. – 2017 erscheint ihre Publikation „Create to Learn. An introduction to Digital Literacy“ im Verlag Wiley Blackwell.

How to manage the huge volume of ever-changing information that is the nature of our global information ecosystem today? In this presentation, Prof. Hobbs talks about the core digital competencies that help people handle six different forms of „fake news.” Based on reflections of how social media platforms are transforming the concepts of authority and expertise, Renee Hobbs considers and debates short and long-term social and educational consequences.
Renee Hobbs is Professor of Communication Studies at the Harrington School of Communication and Media at the University of Rhode Island. She is an internationally-recognized authority on digital and media literacy education. Through community and global service and as a researcher, teacher, advocate and media professional, Hobbs has worked to advance the quality of digital and media literacy education in the United States and around the world. She is Founder and Director of the Media Education Lab, whose mission is to improve the quality of media literacy education through research and community service. – In 2017, Create to Learn: An Introduction to Digital Literacy will be published by Wiley Blackwell.
