The following documents must be submitted:

  1. Final certificate of previous Bachelor or Diploma (alternative interim certificate if your current study course has not been complete yet)
  2. Detailed curriculum vitae
  3. Statement of motivation (personal statement) in video format, explaining the personal interest in this Master’s program and the chosen focus (max. 3 min length)
  4. Portfolio with 4 work samples (PDF, please use links to reference videos uploaded on YouTube/Vimeo)
  5. If available: Proof of practical experience (work certificates, letters of recommendation)
  6. Exposé for a media-practical research project in the chosen focus area:

Please sketch out an idea for an experience on the theme of  "A Location-Based Experience in a +3°C World"

Develop a location-based, immersive experience that explores the social, environmental, and emotional realities of a world that has warmed by three degrees Celsius due to human-induced climate change. The aim is to design a multi-sensory, narrative-driven environment that deeply engages participants and leaves a lasting impression.

  • Create a spatial experience that can take place in a physical, digital, or hybrid location.
  • Design for participant interaction through role-play, decision-making, or engagement with NPCs (non-playable characters) and/or other visitors.
  • Structure the experience across multiple scenes or stations that address different facets of life in a +3°C world (e.g., climate migration, ecosystem collapse, urban adaptation, political conflict, future imaginaries).
  • Utilize a combination of media formats (e.g., sound, video, projection, augmented/virtual reality, installation, performance, web-based components, etc.) to create a cohesive and emotionally resonant experience.
  • The tone of the project is up to you, it may be speculative, documentary, poetic, playful, dystopian, hopeful, or activist in nature. You are encouraged to challenge conventional exhibition formats and explore emerging media practices.
  • Focus on creating an experience that is memorable, immersive, and emotionally powerful.

    Deliverables:

    Concept Summary (1–2 pages):

    • Define the core idea and intent of your experience
    • Identify the target audience
    • Describe the narrative arc or dramaturgical structure
    • Outline the media formats and technologies to be used
    • Explain the intended emotional and intellectual impact

    Walkthrough of 3–4 Key Scenes:

    • Describe how the visitor journey unfolds across the scenes
    • Clarify what participants will see, hear, feel, and do in each part
    • Show how the experience communicates the implications of a +3°C world
    • Include visual materials such as a storyboard, scene sketches, or spatial diagrams (max. 2–3 pages)

    Optional Supplementary Media:

    • Submit a short animated storyboard, interactive prototype, or teaser video (1–3 minutes) that illustrates the atmosphere or interactivity of your design.

Your experience design may be dedicated to any target group, goal, client etc. of your choosing and plan to employ any format or combination of formats (e.g., audio play, website, film, projection, sound walk, AR or VR etc.). Just make sure to demonstrate the potential of your design to elicit a strong emotion and lasting impression on your participants.
