B.A. Animation and Game

The study program

Animation and Game is an international Bachelor‘s degree program with a strong practical focus. The interdisciplinary and project based course is taught in English and qualifies students for creative careers in the international media and entertainment industry. The program includes two specialization pathways:

The “Technology” specialization puts a focus on the technical development and production of animations and games. It gives a deep insight into the basic concepts and methods of modern graphics programming and the creation of art through technology. Students acquire knowledge in game engines, game design, technical art, software architecture and development, various programming languages, real-time graphics programming, key aspects of computer science, generative AI as well as procedural asset generation and creative software tools. 

The “Art and Design” specialization is centered around the creative development and technology based realization of original and innovative animation and game experiences. It combines design theories, creative strategies and artistic practices in the field of animation and games with industry standard digital production methods. Students acquire competencies in key areas such as: animation, game design, digital and technical art, narrative design, cinematography and visual development.

Career Prospects

The „Technology“ specialization qualifies the students for technical careers in the international entertainment or other hightech industries:

  • game or tool programmers
  • game (system) designers
  • technical artists
  • technical producers

 The „Art and Design” specialization qualifies for creative careers in the international animation and game industry:

  • game designer
  • animation artist
  • digital artist
  • technical artist
  • visual effects artist
  • narrative designer
  • creative producer

In addition, a  Master‘s degree course in Animation and Game is offered, which qualifies graduates for leadership positions in the creative industry or research careers.

STUDY INFORMATION EVENT

On Tuesday, 09.12.2025 the B.A. Animation and Game at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences hosts an online study information event.  

From 15:30h student advisors will offer individual online portfolio consultations. If you wish to participate please register until Friday, 05.12.2025 at 18:00h under: ag-studieren@h-da.de.
